About us
The club was formed in August 1993 after a number of informal meetings, where friends shared in a common bond of woodturning. At first membership was small, about six turners, however this has steadily increased to today’s membership of over one hundred.
The club is currently sponsored by three companies:
Axminster Tools & Machinery (Nuneaton branch)
J Carr & Son Ltd, Boston
Chestnut Products
We are pleased to be associated with these companies and thank them for their support.
We meet at Leasingham Village Hall on the third Tuesday of each month, the club opens at 7pm with the Chairman’s short address at 7.25pm before a demonstration from a professional turner, concluding at 10pm. We have four television screens making viewing of the demonstration more enjoyable. For details of demonstrators please see our diary page, which also includes details of workshop evenings in the village hall. On workshop evenings we have several lathes working which enables experienced members to give free tuition to beginner and novice members, this also takes place between 7.30pm – 10pm on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding January.
On club nights we have a competition for members to enter. There are two categories, the Rowan Novice and the Oak Open classes where points are awarded to 1st to 3rd place with a trophy presented at the end of each year. See our competitions page for more information and details on the excellent prizes you could win.
On both club and workshop evenings our club shop is open, selling consumables and tools all at competitive prices.
We hold our annual Woodturning Show in October each year, again at Leasingham village hall. A full day of demonstrations with craft stalls, raffle and refreshments to promote the art and friendship of woodturning.
